Phase Shift is a free Rhythm game for the Windows PC platform, focusing around Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Drums and Dance Mat gameplay modes. All modes work from a single universal Midi song standard allowing any combination of peripherals and modes to function together in multiplayer. Multiplayer can be played locally or online and multiple displays can connected to enable more players.
The game builds from an established song format defined by the FoF[1] project, but extends the system to allow for a range of extended features. This includes real music modes for Guitar and Drums so players can learn to play full songs that can directly carry over to real instruments. This is comparable to the Rock Band Pro Guitar mode, but Phase Shift also includes an authentic drum mode that includes full hihat support with Midi hardware connectivity for real instrument support in addition to the game controllers.
Phase Shift is currently in open beta, current versions may not clearly represent final product quality, features are being added over time. The game has an active player base that shares gameplay videos over youtube demonstrating custom content or gameplay achivements.
Custom user made songs can be created using a dedicated song creator such as EoF[2] editor, that supports many of Phase Shifts new features. As of version v0.80 the game has been opened up to include songs by musicians that allow their content to be shared with the game, the first bundled songs were from Brad Sucks[3], future versions will also include music from the band Attacking The Mind.
